did you know...

E.T. was a botanist.

(well, anyways) one day i was walking deep into the northern woods & i stumbled upon a bundle of lovely creatures at my foot. i snapped their portraits and for a few months researched "what in the heavens is this plant?" i searched on the internet and in botanical books. but no luck...

until i saw this image above in a dover wildflower design book. now who would of thought a dover book could be so informative? the plant is called indian pipe or as i like to call it by it's latin name, monotropa uniflora (once turned single flower). it contains no chlorophyll so it likes dark & damp areas and thrives off of decaying organic matter. there's many names for the indian pipe...like ghost flower, ice plant, and my favorite...fairy smoke

never underestimate the power of dover publications.
